Product Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer safe for household use with children and pets
    around?

Yes. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer is made from organic ingredients and does not contain any harmful chemicals. No synthetic ingredients are used in the processing of the final product thus there are no synthetic products present in our products. It is not necessary to use any protective clothing or eye protection when applying our fertilizers. Warning flags or hazardous material signs are not necessary for the storage areas. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizers are so safe that children and animals can play in the areas where the fertilizer has been applied.

2. Is Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer safe for the environment?

Yes. There are no synthetic chemicals used in the process of making Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer. All nutrients are derived from natural organic fish by-products which are actually shown to actually enrich and strengthen the constitution of soil over the long-run. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer works together with nature’s natural processes and thus will not contaminate ground water or natural water systems. It will not leach, run-off or cause any sort of natural contamination. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer is not only safe but is great for the environment as well.

3. Does Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer work as well as other chemical fertilizers
    with higher N-P-K ratings?

Not only does Bio-Agro work as well as other chemical fertilizer. Its performance exceeds it however the real performance over the long-run. Although chemical fertilizers may have higher N-P-K ratings it does not mean that the fertilizer is better. It simply means it has more Nitrogen, Potassium and Phosphorus per the content of the fertilizer package. What about the rest of the package? When you buy a chemical fertilizer with an N-P-K rating of 29-5-5, only 34% of the package is nutrients. The rest of the chemical fertilizer’s package (66%) is normally made up of sand, dirt or even clay to dilute the concentration of chemicals down to safer levels. Organic fertilizers however have a much higher level of trace elements that is beneficial to both plant and soil. There are no fillers used in Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer or other organic fertilizers.

Plants will generally only use as much nutrients that they need from the soil and not more, even if you apply more. For nutrients in chemical fertilizers to be available to plants, they have to be soluble in water. In order to be soluble in water they have to be in the form of salts. The problem with salts is that once it is dissolved it water it is then subject to evaporation, gasification and run-off resulting in a large percentage of the nutrients is lost to the local water system and environment. The N-P-K numbers of chemical fertilizers have to be higher to off-set this loss. The N-P-K numbers for organic fertilizers like Bio-Agro are the actual nutrient contents of the ingredients that are soluble at the time of testing. Organic fertilizers normally contain ingredients that have not been digested. These ingredients may make up to 50% of the organic fertilizer’s content and don’t contribute to the N-P-K rating because they aren’t soluble in water yet. Over time these ingredients will be slowly digested providing a slow but steady stream of nutrients to the plant and the soil.

When comparing chemical fertilizers to organic fertilizers, plants with lush foliage will always stay green longer when organic fertilizers are applied. Organic fertilizers feed the soil which in-turn feeds the plant. When the plant calls for the nutrients it sends the signal to the roots which will then absorb the nutrients from the ground as necessary. Real results can only be seen after 3 weeks. Plant roots will be stronger, color will last longer and the nutrient mix of the soil will be restored.

4. Why does it take longer for organic fertilizers to work compared to
    chemical fertilizers?

Organic fertilizers feed the soil which in turn will feed the plant. Chemical fertilizers only feed the plant while neglecting the soil. Chemical fertilizers in high concentration will provide concentrated amounts of nitrogen resulting in instant greens which is pleasing to the eye but isn’t good for the plant and is also bad for the soil. The instant greening will not last. Organic fertilizers on the other hand feed the soil slowly over time. It will feed the plant as it needs with a lasting continues affect.

5. Can Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer be used near bodies of water (e.g. rivers,
    lakes)?

Yes. As mentioned before Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer does not contain any synthetic chemicals. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer has a very high absorption rating with soil thus will not leach into the surrounding water. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer is attracted to soil and dirt. When mixed, it forms bio-matter with the help of natural bacteria and enzymes and will never run-off when combined with soil. If applied at the water’s edge expect some residue to run-off that hasn’t been given enough time for the soil to absorb.

6. Does Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer have and offensive odour?

No. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer being naturally organic does have a characteristic odour however it isn’t offensive. The smell has been said to be similar to Bovril with pickles. Our process of accelerated digestion removes all fishy odour. Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer will not become odourous after use or even under intense sun or heat.

7. Is it more expensive to use organic fertilizers in the long-run compared to
    chemical fertilizers?

No. From studies with farmers and planters it is actually less expensive over the course of growing periods because lighter concentration together with fewer applications can be used compared to chemical fertilizers. Chemical fertilizer application schedules normally call for application every 4 weeks because they do not feed nutrients to the soil over a long period of time like organic fertilizers. In order to keep foliage green chemical fertilizers need to be applied religiously which results in a constant fixed cost to the farmer of planter. Organic fertilizers can be used more sparingly, with fewer applications, combined by Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer’s competitive pricing means that organic fertilizers are actually cheaper compared to chemical fertilizers.

8. Why should I change from using chemical fertilizers to organic fertilizers?

Other than the points stressed above, the costs benefit, the environmental benefit and the benefit to the plant there are a few more. Not many people know that before 1945 there wasn’t any chemical fertilizers available for purchase, indeed none were made. It was only after the WWII had ended that an abundance of ammonium nitrate left over from making bombs was used to make chemical fertilizers.

There has been a strong movement by many NGOs and even government departments to push the use of organic fertilizers because of its obvious benefits. Organic fertilizers are the natural choice for keeping the environment clean and safe, care about drinking clean water, care about the safety of our children’s future and even simply to restore soil like the way nature intended.

9. What do horticulturists have to say about Bio-Agro Organic Fertilizer?

In many parts of the world where chemical fertilizers aren’t use, such as remote villages or communities, fertilizers made from grounding up cooked fish and putting it in the ground is still a preferred way to start a planting cycle.

The proteins in the fish meat are broken down very quickly by the bacterium that is available in the soil. The meat serves as food for the bacterium and thus populations of them start expanding. It is the by-product of the bacterium’s digestion that is particularly beneficial to plants giving them the extra nutrients that chemical fertilizers aren’t able to provide. The calcium in the fish bones and skeletal structure also provide an excellent mineral source that is readily available for the plant to absorption.

Of all the different fertilizers that are available today, fish emulsion is still readily recommended to junior horticulturists who have yet to learn the tricks of the trade. This is because fish emulsion is basically the idiot’s fertilizer. It is completely safe, an extremely easy form of fertilization and also provide a wide spectrum of nutrients to plants. Almost all plants will respond to fish emulsion once applied and given time to work.
